“It stands to reason (that)”意思是“（某现象）是符合常理的”，可以不加that单独使用，也可以加that然后后面加句子。 

It stands to reason that they'll leave if you don't pay your employees enough. 
如果你没有支付员工相应的工资，他们会离职，这理所当然。 


拓展知识点： 
without rhyme or reason意思是“莫名其妙；毫无道理”。

Suddenly, without rhyme or reason, her mood changed. 
突然间，她的心情就莫名其妙地变了。 

这个词组也可以用“there's no rhyme or reason to / for something”句式来代替，举个例子： 

There's no rhyme or reason for his behaviour. 
他这样做毫无道理啊。 

Despite this, the underlying cause of disease outbreaks is still very much a mystery.” 
尽管如此，疾病爆发的根本原因仍然无从得知。

朗文对underlying的英文解释是“the most important, although it is not easily noticed”，译为“根本的，潜在的”，那the underlying cause就可以理解为“根本原因”，类似的搭配还有an underlying principle / problem / theme / assumption等。


拓展知识点： 
underlying还有条释义是“在下面的”，后面加名词进行搭配使用。比如underlying rock是指“下伏岩石”。underlying也是underlie的现在分词，意思跟动词形式一致。

极力劝告投资者不要因为今年开市以来良好的股市收益而盲目投资。

get / be carried away意为“非常激动，忘乎所以”，想象你收到研究生录取通知书的那一刻：

1. 神通广大的carry搭配纷繁复杂，carry a torch for someone字面意思是“为某人举火炬”，实际含义是“单相思，单恋某人”。

拓展知识点： 心理学上有个名词叫“厌恶疗法”，对应的英文就是aversion therapy。 

《咨询心理学》（杜高明著）一书中有介绍：厌恶疗法的基本原理是把令人厌恶的刺激，如电击、催吐、语言责备和想象等，与患者的不良行为相结合，形成一种新的条件反射，以对抗原有的不良行为。常用于治疗酒瘾、烟瘾、药瘾、强迫观念等不良习惯和行为的矫治等。
